BOSTON — A Carver man killed in a Duxbury construction accident involving a saw on Saturday was a devoted husband and father, his wife told FOX25.
"He was an amazing father," Jennifer Sanderson said of her husband Jason. "I just want to be a complete family again."
Jason Sanderson, 28, worked for the Middleborough Water Department, but decided to work an extra shift for a private company over the weekend, building a water main for new-construction homes. He wanted to help out the crew and bring home a couple hundred dollars for his family.
Sanderson was in a trench cutting an iron pipe when "the circular chop saw that Sanderson was using became bound and kicked back, striking him in the neck," the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said in a statement Saturday. Duxbury police and OSHA have been investigating the case.
Sanderson's coworkers tried desperately to save him, putting pressure on the wound until first responder arrived, carrying him out of the hole and into an ambulance.
Doctors spent hours working on Sanderson, who died at Beth Israel Hospital - Plymouth.
"He couldn't breathe. It hit his carotid artery, and they tried to control the bleeding, but his heart just wasn't working. They tried for hours," his wife said in tears. "Thank you to everyone that tried to save him."
But Jennifer still has questions about what happened.
"I haven't heard anything. I'd love to know something," she said. "What happened. Why did this happen? I mean, why?"
The Sandersons have three children, 9-year-old Dylan, and 18-month-old twins, Colin and Lily. Colin had a rare genetic disorder and requires a feeding tube.
Jennifer, who is a part-time nurse, said she will not be able to return to work in order to care for her children.
Family members are setting up a bank account for donors to help financially support the children.
Fire officials and family members told FOX25 the private company Sanderson was working for is Orwig. FOX25 attempted to reach the company and its owner but could not make contact.
A fund to support the family has been set up at Rockland Trust under "The Sanderson Family Benefit Account."
