MALDEN, Mass. — A former teacher's aide at Malden high School was arraigned Tuesday in a Middlesex Court on charges he sexual assaulted a disabled student.
Steven MacDonald, 46, was released on personal recognizance and ordered to stay away from and have no contact with the victim or his family. He also is not allowed to work with children under the age of 18.
"The indictment of this employee is deeply concerning to the Malden Public Schools," Malden Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Charles Grandson told FOX25.
According to the district attorney's office, the MacDonald was a teacher's aide at Malden High School and starting in Sept. 2015 he worked in the victim's classroom. MacDonald allegedly took the defendant into the bathroom and repeatedly sexually assaulted him -- threatening to kill his mother if he didn't comply with his demands.
The assaults were reported in March 2016 to the victim's mother and doctors, prompting the school to place MacDonald on leave.
“The defendant in this case was trusted to care for and assist the student that he allegedly sexually assaulted. Such allegations, if proven, violate the trust that parents and guardians place in their children’s educators,” said District Attorney Ryan. “The charges brought today are a result of the collaborative investigation conducted with the assistance of Malden High School and the Malden Police Department.”
