Emerson student in trouble with school after renting out dorm room on Airbnb

BOSTON — An Emerson College student is in big trouble at school for listing his dorm room for rent online.

, Emerson school officials say sophomore Jack Worth violated the school's policies by allowing people to rent his room on the site

.

Worth says he was trying to offset the cost of school while providing a service to people visiting the city of Boston. Worth tells Boston.com that he never read anything in the school's policy that expressly prohibited him from renting out his dorm room.

College officials say it is in their residence hall policy and a housing contract that undergraduate residents sign.

Some of Worth's fellow students are standing by him. Hundreds have signed a

to show their support.

Worth wouldn't say what punishment the school is threatening him with. School officials haven't commented.
