Dunkin' Donuts to close 100 stores

NEW YORK (MyFoxBoston.com) - Dunkin' Donuts announced Thursday it plans to close 100 stores at its Speedway gas locations.

The company said the stores are franchise-owned at Speedway-operated self-service units. The stores will close now through 2016.

Dunkin' Donuts said the locations only represent .1 percent of their U.S. sales.

"Their closure presents Dunkin' Donuts with an opportunity to re-enter many trade areas with full-menu traditional restaurants. In fact, Dunkin' Donuts franchisees are opening a new restaurant every 16 hours," said Karen Raskopf, Chief Communications Officer, Dunkin’ Brands.

AP reports that shares of Dunkin' Brands are down 10 percent after the company said it expects sales to slow from the previous quarter at its doughnut shops.
