Drivers in Pike road rage incident have licenses suspended indefinitely

Both drivers involved in a serious case of road rage on the Mass Pike last week had their licenses suspended indefinitely.

According to a spokesperson for the Mass. Department of Transportation, 37-year-old Mark Fitzgerald and 65-year-old Richard Kamrowski will no longer be able to drive after an altercation led to Kamrowski clinging to the roof of Fitzgerald's car as he drove down the Pike.

The men's license suspension came after they faced a judge at Waltham District Court on Monday.

A Department of Transportation spokesperson told Boston 25 News their licenses had been "suspended indefinitely under the Immediate Threat provision contained within Mass General Law, Chapter 90, Section 22."

Police say it all happened after both men were involved in a minor accident on Friday and pulled over on the left lane to exchange paperwork.

Kamrowski got out of his car to swap information with Fitzgerald when police say the exchange became heated. Authorities said Fitzgerald then began driving toward Kamrowski, who was forced to get on the hood of the SUV.

Fitzgerald was traveling along the Mass Pike at speeds of up to 70 mph as Kamrowski held onto to the hood of the moving SUV, stopping and accelerating when Kamrowski didn't get off.

He then drove for two to three miles until another driver, who is a licensed gun owner, according to State Police, got out of his car, pointed his gun at Fitzgerald and ordered him to get out of his SUV.
State Police then responded to the scene in Weston.

Fitzgerald, of Lynn, is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and other violations. Kamrowski, of Framingham, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Fitzgerald was released on $500 cash bail and ordered to have no contact with the Kamrowski.

Kamrowski was released on personal recognizance and similarly ordered. Both are due back in court on March 13.
