SAUGUS, Mass. — The drawbridge connecting Lynn and Saugus is once again 'fully operational,' according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
The Belden Bly Bridge, also known as the Fox Hill Drawbridge, was stuck Monday and had to be lowered by crane Tuesday afternoon.
MassDOT officials said mechanical repairs were set to begin during overnight hours this week, but said Thursday morning the work was completed in just one night.
Contractors told MassDOT a steel rope used to open the drawbridge had a mechanical issue that needed to be fixed. Crews installed two new steel 'ropes' overnight Wednesday and the bridge was tested.
It has now reopened to both car and boat traffic.
The Belden Bly Bridge over the Saugus River carries traffic on Route 107.
MassDOT says it is working on completing the design for an $80 million replacement bridge for the site.
