(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Our neighbors to the North could be getting rid of one controversial parenting technique.
The Canadian Medical Association Journal is calling for an end to a law that allows parents to spank their children.
Just like here in the U.S., parents in Canada are protected under law to physically discipline their children within reason.
But the journal's editor-in-chief calls spanking an "excuse for poor parenting" and cites a list of proven side effects as a result of spanking, including mental health issues and depression.
Worldwide, more than 30 countries ban spanking.
