Doctor's report reveals Zimmerman's injuries

SANFORD, Fla. (NEWSCORE) -- George Zimmerman's fatal clash with Florida teen Trayvon Martin left the murder accused with a broken nose, two black eyes, facial bruising, cuts to the back of his head and a minor back injury, according to a doctor's appraisal.

Zimmerman's family doctor recorded the injuries in February, a day after the 28-year-old shot Martin dead during a night-time altercation in a gated community in Sanford, outside Orlando, ABC News reported Tuesday.

He sought the doctor's appointment to get permission to return to work, it was reported.

But Zimmerman, after refusing hospital treatment the night of the clash, also refused a recommended follow-up with an ear, nose and throat specialist, the report revealed.

Martin was walking home, unarmed, to a house where he was staying with his father when Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, followed him and a fight broke out. Zimmerman claims that after he stopped following Martin, the teen attacked him and he was forced to shoot him in self-defense.

The six-week gap between Martin's death on Feb. 26 and Zimmerman's arrest led to protests throughout the US, but the insurance underwriter now faces second-degree murder charges.

Zimmerman is currently free on bond as he assists his lawyers in preparing his defense.
