BILLERICA, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A criminal complaint was filed against a Billerica police officer Thursday after he allegedly assaulted a man at an Elk's Club in 2013.
Police say a complaint was filed against John Hickey, 47, on charges of assault and battery and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. Hickey, a 19-year veteran of the department, has been on administrative leave since early this year after police learned about the allegations in connection with an incident that happened at the Billerica Elks Club in June of 2013 where Hickey allegedly assaulted another man.
Hickey will also face administrative charges if he is found responsible and there's also a chance he may be terminated from the force.
"These allegations, if true, represent a violation of the public trust," Chief Rosa said in a statement. "This alleged behavior is not what we expect from our public servants. We strive every day to earn the public's trust, and this case was referred to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office when we learned of it."
