WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police say that officers were attacked with a knife while serving arrest warrants Wednesday afternoon.
The officers arrived at an apartment on Gates street in an attempt to locate 19-year-old Jillian Keans and 23-year-old Ryan Madelle.
Police say the officers entered the apartment and went into the basement, announcing their presence several times. The light switch to the basement did not work, and the officers say they used flashlights to navigate.
The officers say they found Keans and Madelle hiding underneath a stairwell. Keans allegedly attempted to run away before surrendering. Madelle allegedly punched one of the officers in the head and torso. Police say Madelle then lunged at an officer with a knife that was around 10-inches long.
Police say other officers soon arrived and disarmed Madelle before arresting him.
Keans and Madelle were both charged with resisting arrest and on outstanding warrants.
Madelle was additionally charged with assault and battery on a police officer and assault with a dangerous weapon.
