Crews, homeowners clean up after storm

MILTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A huge tree came crashing down on a car in Milton overnight during the rain and wind.

Jonathan Mills stepped out of his home Thursday morning and saw the tree on his wife's car. The massive chestnut tree crushed the back of the car like a soda can. Despite the damage, Mills is glad it landed where it did.

"Other than my wife's car it fell it probably the best possible place - could have gone into my daughters room," he said.

A few miles away a tress fell across Aberdeen Road and on the southshore in Duxbury, a tree took out power to a home on Depot Road. Utility crews and tree trimmers were busy all day, but it wasn't as bad as anticipated.

"I was expecting more storm damage calls with the heavy wind and rain we had certainly," said Robert McKinney with Bartlett Tree Service.

One wind gust clocked at 60 miles per hour shortly before 4 a.m.at the Blue Hills Observatory. Rockport had a 52 mile per hour gust and Fairhaven and Wareham both clocked in 47.

The strongest gust in the country last night was recorded in New Hampshire on top of Mt. Washington.
