BOSTON — A Department of Homeland Security agent used sexually explicit email conversations through Craigslist to track down a Wellesley High School track coach accused to possessing child pornography, according to an affidavit filed in federal court.
Walter Johnson, 69, is accused of trading child pornography through Craigslist advertisements and, according to the court filing, used a Yahoo! email address connected to the UMass Amherst Alumni Association.
A special agent with the Department of Homeland Security cataloged emails between a Craigslist user, who she says she later determined to be Johnson, and another subject under investigation in the Providence area. The conversations included sexually explicit dialogue about child pornography and the sexual assault of children.
Court documents indicate one particular conversation included Johnson giving identifying information, saying he lived in the “Framingham area.”
DHS special agent Janet Connolly says Craigslist identified the email address associated with the conversations as a Yahoo! account she says she connected to Johnson. Connolly says she tracked the IP address to Johnson’s home in Framingham, but also says she found an email from Johnson’s apparent Harvard.edu email address.
According to Connolly, Johnson confessed to using the Yahoo! email address to exchange “sexually explicit stories and fantasies” with other people. He also allegedly confessed to exchanging child pornography through the site.
