(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – E-mails exchanged between the chemist behind the drug lab scandal and a former Norfolk County Prosecutor went beyond professional correspondence, according to a reporter from the Boston Globe.
Over a two-year period, Annie Dookhan reportedly shared very personal information with Norfolk County Assistant District Attorney George Papachristos, a man she was analyzing evidence for, at all hours of the day and night. Papachristos abruptly resigned on Wednesday.
Chemists are supposed to be 100% objective; but it appeared Dookhan's e-mails to Papachristos were in violation of that protocol.
When Massachusetts State Police began their investigation last month, it was leaked that Dookhan reportedly liked to chat with certain prosecutors whose cases she worked on, including Papachristos.
One co-worker described the calls to Dookhan's personal cell phone as unusual.
Boston Globe reporter Scott Allen has been briefed on the e-mails and says some of them are intimate in nature.
State police and Papachristos' former boss Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey say there is no evidence to indicate a romantic relationship; however, Dookhan's husband had suspicions.
Dookhan is accused of cutting corners and tampering with evidence. Thirty-four thousand drug cases are now in jeopardy, including cases that Papachristos prosecuted.
The investigative report says, "Annie Dookhan always wanted Norfolk County" cases.
Veronica White is a Boston-based defense attorney who represents 15 defendants whose cases were handled by Dookhan. She says it is clear Dookhan was not objective, and this only adds fuel to an already raging fire.
FOX 25's Ted Daniel spoke with Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey, and Morrissey said Papachristos violated professional standards. Morrissey said Papachristos chose to resign so as not to be a distraction during the investigation.
Dookhan is facing criminal charges and is currently out on bail.
