Community steps up to support Plymouth school administrator after loss

The community is rallying around the family of a beloved Boston Public Schools pre-kindergarten teacher who touched the lives of the many 4-year-olds who she taught over the years.

Christina Murphy passed away unexpectedly on Monday. Due to an incomprehensible tragedy, she will not be able to experience the joy of teaching her own precious sons those magical 4–year-old lessons that she mastered in her classroom. Her boys, ages 2 years and just 2 months, will undoubtedly hear countless stories about their kind, soft spoken and caring mother, but they will not have the chance to grow up in her loving embrace.

In the wake of this tragic loss, the overwhelming support shown to her husband, Joe, and the boys has been a testament to the positive impact both Joe and Christina have made as educators. Joe is the assistant principal at Plymouth South Middle School.

An ongoing fundraiser on GoFundMe raised close to $45,000 in one day for Joe and his sons.

"Joe Murphy ... has been an active member of the Plymouth community for many years as a coach, teacher, colleague, and friend," the fundraising page reads. "Please consider contributing to help Joe and his sons during this very difficult time of loss."

Memorial services for Christina will be held this week.
