Community meetings to be held in Winthrop to address deadly shooting

WINTHROP, Mass. — Community meetings will be held in Winthrop as investigators continue to investigate what led up to Saturday’s deadly double shooting that’s being called a hate crime.

Two meetings are planned for Wednesday night. One will be held at the Senior Center on Harvard Street and the other at Temple Tifereth Israel on Veterans Road.

The meetings will be held at 7 p.m.

The Public Health Department said residents can ask questions and receive trauma support time.

On Tuesday a crisis intervention team went door-to-door to check on anyone who may be struggling after the deadly shooting.

They said they’re trying to reach anyone who may have known the victims or witnessed the crime.

Police said the gunman, Nathan Allan, wrote hateful anti-Semitic and racist messages in a journal.

Investigators are expected to release more details about the evidence in the coming days.

Investigators said Allen had no criminal record and likely acted alone.

A vigil for the victims is being planned for Thursday night.
