LYNN, Mass. — It’s been nearly 30 years since a prominent high school football player from Lynn died in a car crash, but just last week his class ring was stolen.
Rick Drislane was the captain of the Lynn Technical High School football team in 1987, but on Thanksgiving Day, the car he was in was hit by a drunk driver.
"He was just one of those guys that to know him was to love him,” Rick’s high school classmate, Karen Card, said. "The whole city was shattered when he passed.”
Last week, while Rick’s mom was at work, someone broke into her Lynn home and stole his class ring.
"She came home from work and found out the door was unlocked and didn't think much of it because the house was fine and then before she went to bed found the jewelry box was open and the jewelry was missing,” Card said.
Card lives in Florida, but she’s doing everything she can to help Rick’s mother recover the ring. It's one of the few mementos she has.
"Every day, bad things happen to good people, and I think it's important if you see an opportunity or feel you can make it right, you need to step up and do it,” Card said.
She’s even taken to Craigslist, offering a $500 reward for the return of the ring.
Lynn police say the investigation into the alleged robbery is open and ongoing.
