QUINCY, Mass. -- As Quincy grows so does the problem of finding a place to park.
Several residents tells Boston 25 they can’t even park in their own neighborhood especially if they live near one of four MBTA stops in Quincy.
So officials in Quincy are now working on creating parking permit system similar to what bigger cities like Boston and Cambridge already have.
"A permit that prevents people from outside their neighborhood or the city from parking on their streets at all," says Chris Cassani, Quincy’s Parking Director.
Boston 25 News spoke to a couple of residents who say streets are constantly congested with cars and that parking signs are very seldom enforced.
That’s especially true near the city’s T stops where at least one resident told us he moved because he was so frustrated.
With four MBTA stops in the city, parking becomes even more of an issue for those who live there. Some commuters will leave their cars in a spot all day despite what signs and regulations dictate.
“We also want to make sure we don’t allow folks who don’t live Quincy or in those neighborhoods from parking there to use the MBTA," said Cassani.
And as the city adds new apartments and condos, even more people are looking for spots.
"With putting new buildings - high rises - it's extremely busy and I think it'd be a great idea for resident parking," said Tracy Shehadi, a Quincy resident.
Cassani said enforcement isn't easy with the current system and said parking permits will help eliminate parking problems.
Residents we spoke to say they are okay with paying the $25 to $50 price for the permits if it means more parking spots in their own neighborhoods.
"Oh, that's not bad and I think it's a great idea and a lot of residents would be happy with that," said Tracy Shehadi.
