City cancels Boston Winter amid plaza renovation plans

BOSTON — Winter has been canceled! Well, Boston Winter, that is.

Renovations are coming to Boston's City Hall Plaza and it's prompting the cancellation of the Boston Winter Festival.

The city is planning a $60 million overhaul of the plaza.

The new plans include a seasonal fountain, tree-covered gather spots, and changes to the north side entrance of City Hall.

There will also be infrastructure upgrades that could allow event organizers to better tap into water, electricity and data lines.

Construction is expected to begin next year.
