HARWICH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Female students at Cape Cod Tech are on the offensive because a new dress code requires them to wear shorts or a skirt over yoga pants.
They’re organizing an event called “First Day = Yoga Pants” where 200 girls are planning on sporting the banned pants.
“We can’t help we were born girls and we shouldn’t have to pay for it either because boys can’t ‘control’ themselves,” an event organizer said on the Facebook page.
Some students at the school said boys are distracted by the pants and even act inappropriately.
“Certain guys do that, I don’t but I’ve seen it happen before,” Jonathan Young, a student, said.
“I think it’s good that they are [making changes]. I think they definitely need to crack down on what the boys are doing,” Andrea Rocco, a parent, said.
Regardless of whether they prompt behavioral issues, the principal said the new requirement has to do with professional dress and making sure they’re work ready because they are attending a vocational high school.
Some students say that excuse doesn’t work.
“I think it’s just kind of strange to do it here because we’re in uniform [when we’re in shop],” Latasha Miranda, a student, said.
Cape Cod tech isn't the first school to change their dress code for yoga pants. This past February students at Rockport High School were banned form wearing them completely.
