ROXBURY, Mass. - Residents in Roxbury woke up on Sunday to find someone had tagged multiple homes and a historic church with spray-paint.
In an overnight tagging spree, vandals spray painted graffiti all over a part of the neighborhood, upsetting many residents.
Before Sunday evening mass at the United Emmanuel Holiness Church in Roxbury, Boston 25 News brought the graffiti on the back side of the church to Deacon Landel Milton's attention.
Deacon Milton said he was saddened to learn someone had disrespected not only the church but the entire community. He had no idea this had happened and carried on with Sunday evening's service with the faith that police will catch whoever did it.
"Very disrespectful," said Deacon Landel Milton. "Unspeakable, very terrible - it’s not supposed to be on anyone’s property much less a church it’s not nice."
Boston 25 News counted at least a dozen instances of graffiti, many on the front and backsides of historic brownstone properties near Warwick and Windsor streets in Roxbury, close to the South End.
There is speculation going around the neighborhood over what and who could be behind the tagging, yet no one seems certain.
Boston Police said they responded to the neighborhood at around 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Homeowners in the area are worried about what this could mean for their community.
