Buck Showalter: "I've never been black."

Orioles manager Buck Showalter was emotional after Wednesday's game in Baltimore played with no fans in the stands.

Showalter was asked for his opinion on the unrest that's overtaken the city this week and he was cautious in offering an opinion.

"I've never been black, okay," said Showalter. "So I can't, I've never been faced with the challenges that they face, okay. So I understand the emotion, but I can't, it's a pet-peeve of mine when somebody says, 'Why don't they do this? Why doesn't somebody do that?'

"You have never been black, okay. So just slow down a little bit."

He also praised the fortitude of those in the city of Baltimore as they've faced a stressful week.

"We've made quite a statement as a city," he said. "Some good, some bad, but now let's get on with taking the statement we've made and creating a positive. We've talked to the players, I want to be a rallying force for the city."
