Brockton's interim police chief hit by car

HINGHAM, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say Brockton's interim police chief was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Hingham.

The Brockton Enterprise reports that Robert Hayden was struck around 3:50 p.m. Sunday on Hull Street. He was taken to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.

Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter said the chief suffered multiple broken ribs, lacerations, and a concussion. In the update on his Facebook page, the mayor said Chief Hayden would be in the hospital for a few days, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The 71-year-old Hayden, who lives in Hingham, has been interim police chief in Brockton since Feb. 1.

Hingham Police Sgt. Seven Dearth says the accident is being investigated and no charges have been filed.
