Ipswich driver cited for motor vehicle homicide in crash that killed bicyclist, injured two others

IPSWICH, Mass. — The driver of a 2011 Kia Soul that struck and killed a bicyclist in Ipswich has been cited.

According to a release from the Essex District Attorney’s Office, 43-year-old Ryane Linehan of Ipswich was cited for Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation, Marked Lanes violation and Composing, Sending, Reading an electronic message.

On March 26th, 58-year-old George Norris was riding his bike on Topsfield Road with his wife and son when they were allegedly struck by the car operated by Linehan.

George Norris and his 19-year-old son were transported by ambulance to the Turner Hill Golf Club before being flown by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with serious, life-threatening injuries. His 60-year-old wife was transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital with injuries that were believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

George Norris died from his injuries the next morning.

The crash was investigated by the Ipswich Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction and the Essex District Attorney’s Office.

Linehan remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. She has been summoned to appear at a clerk’s hearing in May.
