BOSTON — The City of Wakefield is hoping to keep the victory parade going right on their streets.
Organizers of the annual Fourth of July parade in Wakefield are launching a campaign to get Tom Brady to headline this year's event.
Most of the year, Wakefield is a quiet community of about 20,000 people.
But every July 4, it's filled with more than 80,000 people for the largest parade in the state.
Organizers say the perfect grand marshal for this year's event is the greatest quarterback of all time.
“Who better to join Pat the Patriot, cheerleaders and maybe the trophy than Tom Brady himself?” organizer Brian Fox said. “We are the second largest parade in New England, just behind Bristol, Rhode Island, so we are always looking for something to give us a little bit of a boost to make us the largest and we think this might be it.”
On Monday, Fox launched a campaign on social media called “Tom Brady to Wakefield,” hoping to go viral and catch the QB’s attention.
The committee is also planning fundraisers to bank extra funds to cover Brady's appearance fee.
“My budget for booking the non-musical acts is only $20,000, so I don't quite have the money he's probably used to for these big events,” Fox explained.
He knows it’s quite a long shot, but any fan who saw Julian Edelman snatch victory from the turf on Sunday night, sometimes a Hail Mary prayer gets an answer.
“He's officially the greatest quarterback of all time and if we can get him to come out, that would be the most amazing parade ever,” said Fox.
To hire Brady to appear at events like this can often reach astronomical sums, so the community is hoping a series of fundraisers will help raise the money necessary.
