Boy falls 15 feet onto concrete after climbing onto CVS roof

DEDHAM, Mass. — A 12-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after falling 15 feet through a roof landing at a CVS Pharmacy and onto a concrete floor.

Once he made it up, the roof collapsed and the boy fell and he became trapped inside an old landing dock, police said.

"The youth was able to climb onto the roof by stepping on door hinges and grabbing hold of a steel railing to propel himself onto the roof," said Dedham Police Chief Michael D'Entremont.

First responders used the Jaws of Life to rescue the boy after rushing to the CVS Pharmacy on Bussey Street on Wednesday afternoon.

"There were a group of kids playing on the roof and one of them fell through the roof, and there’s a dead space on the left hand side of the building and he fell into the dead space area," said John Kineavy of Dedham.

The boy suffered minor injuries. He was sent to the hospital for evaluation.

Customers said the boy's friends ran into the store and told employees that their friend was trapped.

"The other kids had to come in and notify the employees that there was a hurt kid in the other area," Kineavy said.

Building inspectors were on scene Wednesday night to secure part of the building.
