Boston lawyer charged with witness tampering in hate crime case

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Boston defense attorney was charged Wednesday with tampering a case after allegedly advising the victim of a hate crime to dodge phone calls from law enforcement on several occasions.

Timothy Flaherty, 50, of Cambridge, allegedly contacted the victim while representing a defendant facing civil rights charges. The defendant was also charged in connection with an altercation where he allegedly assaulted a man and yelled, "you little Muslim... you [expletive] terrorist," at him. Flaherty allegedly offered the victim $2,500 cash in exchange for telling authorities that he was too busy to continue pursuing the case and didn't want to help any longer.

Flaherty was indicted on tampering with a witness to a possible federal civil rights offense and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
