Boston hotel hit with license violation for Tufts party

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The Westin Copley Hotel has been slapped with a license violation by Boston police for a Tufts University party that reportedly got out of hand.

Police accuse the hotel of offenses that include intoxicated patrons needing medical attention, underaged drinking, hotel security uncooperative, outside liquor brought onto license premise establishment, and egress issues addressed with management.

Investigators claim they asked hotel security to shut down Tufts University's annual winter bash on Feb. 1 after they observed several students who appeared to be extremely intoxicated leaving the third floor ballroom. Security reportedly responded by saying, "No, they have 10 minutes left!"

Boston police say some students, including an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, were transported to local hospitals. School officials say 15 students were treated for excessive drinking.

Several students were reportedly found passed out and throwing up in different rooms of the hotel. In a letter published by Tufts Daily, the dean of student affairs says students were throwing up and urinating in the lobby.

School officials say all university events are now under review and students could see major changes in the following months. Students found to have violated the Student Code of Conduct will be subject to disciplinary action.

Statement from Tufts University:

"On February 1, approximately 3,000 of our students attended the annual Winter Bash party, held in Boston. Most of those 3,000 students behaved appropriately. However a small number did not. Approximately 15 were treated onsite for alcohol abuse and six were transported to area hospitals. Others were blatantly rude and disrespectful. This kind of behavior is not unique to our university but it is absolutely unacceptable. Those found to have violated our Student Code of Conduct will be subject to disciplinary consequences ranging from a warning to suspension. Our students and administration are taking a hard look to see what changes we need to make to encourage responsible actions by students and prevent the rude and risky behavior that marred this year's event."
