On arrival, firefighters noticed the fire was showing from the roof of the house. The blaze burned through the second and third floors, all the way through the roof.
“We didn’t see anything but the flames coming from the roof,” said Lavone Carr, a fire victim.
Carr, who lives in the home, told Boston 25 News her mother was the one who alerted her about the incident. She then grabbed her 5-year-old son and ran out, along with four others in the house. Firefighters ensured everyone had made it out safely.

The heaviest part of the fire was knocked down at around 9 p.m., but companies worked late into the night to put out the rest of it.
At one point, firefighters thought one of their own had gotten trapped inside, but they were able to rescue him from a window.
“You never know,” said Boston Fire Chief Andre Stallworth. “Fortunately, we had a rapid intervention team and additional fire companies out there. They found him, and took him to safety. They took him down the ladder he got out fairly easily.”
Two firefighters that were taken to the hospital are expected to be okay, one who had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
