Boston FD honors firefighters killed in 2014 9-alarm blaze

BOSTON — March 26 was a solemn day for members of the Boston Fire Department as they remembered two of their fallen brothers killed in a Back Bay fire two years ago.

A memorial ceremony was held today on Beacon Street at the same moment the alarm came in two years ago.

Firefighters sounded an alert tone then held a moment of silence.

Lt. Ed Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy were killed while responding to that fire on Beacon Street.

Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn says the department will never forget the bravery those two men.

“That day was a very difficult day, it was a tragic day for the Boston Fire Department. It would be a shame on us if we forget. We’ll be coming together every year to remember Lt. Walsh and Firefighter Kennedy,” Finn said.

A federal report on what went wrong in the deadly fire was released earlier this month and the families of the Walsh and Kennedy say they hope the recommendations that were made in that report are put into place.
