Local company promising quick Boston-to-NY 'air taxi' service

BOSTON — A new flying taxi says it can get commuters from Boston to New York in 36 minutes.

The Boston-based company is developing a six-seat aircraft that would connect the two major cities.

Transcend Air Corporation says the aircraft would take off and land straight up and down and travel more than 400 miles per hour.

Prices are comparable to most commercial flights with an average round trip costing about $283.

The company says the vertical takeoff would eliminate the need to fly in and out of airports. Meaning, the company could operate out of helipads and fly directly from city centers.

The company hopes to launch service in several North American cities beginning in 2024.
