Body discovered in the Charles River

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police said a body has been discovered in the Charles River.

Two joggers spotted the body, partially submerged near the railing around 8:15 a.m. Thursday morning. Witnesses were on the Cambridge side of the river near the Longfellow Bridge.

Troopers secured the area and the Marine Unit was sent to recover the body, which appears to be an adult male.

Police say the condition of the body suggests it was in the river for an extended period of time. Efforts to identify the body are underway.
