Bicyclist suffers life-threatening injuries after being hit by car in Westborough

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — A 48-year-old woman was taken to the hospital Wednesday after being hit by a car in Westborough.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. on West Main Street. Police tell Boston 25 News the woman was immediately taken into surgery for life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver, a 46-year-old woman from South Grafton, continued more than 600 feet down the road after hitting the cyclist before she stopped.

“Responding units found a bicycle in this area and found a motor vehicle about 1/8 of a mile down the road with the bicyclist on the vehicle still," officer Cliff Luce said.

The driver's 5-year-old was in the back seat at the time of the crash, but it's unclear if that played a role in the cause.

“She was traveling westbound on West Main St. At some point she crossed over into the Eastbound lane of travel impacted the bicyclist," Luce said. “She was not impaired in any way by alcohol or drugs or anything along those lines.”

The driver did stop at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. At this time no charges have been filed.

The bicyclists has been identified a 48-year-old Marybeth Maloney of Westborough. Her condition is unknown at this time.
