BOSTON — Jonathan Hernandez, the brother of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez, has released his first public statement since his brother’s prison suicide.
"From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who has supported my mother and me during such difficult times. My younger brother Aaron was far from perfect, but I will always love him," Hernandez wrote in the statement. "Many stories about my brother's life have been shared with the public – except the story Aaron was brave enough to share with our mother and me. It's the one story he wanted us to share with the world. It is Aaron's truth."
Hernandez was serving a life sentence in jail after he was convicted of killing Odin Lloyd in 2013. After his suicide a judge overturned his conviction.
Hernandez had been acquitted in a double-murder in Boston’s South End in 2012 just days before he was found hanged in his prison cell.
