A tangled web of towing across state lines

NASHUA, N.H. — When he parked in this Nashua lot, Chris Pierdominici says he was only gone for about an hour.

"[I] Came out and noticed my car was gone so I’m like okay, apparently I got towed," he said. "Highway robbery was the first thing that popped into mind, to be honest."

When he called to locate his car, he got an even bigger surprise. It was at East Bound towing across the state line in Pepperell, Massachusetts.

"A little peeved, I think was my initial reaction, I would have thought it would have stayed in the area," he said.

Pierdoniminici says he had no idea it was a private lot because the tow signs were obscured by another parked car. City officials agree the signage was a problem and have since put up this temporary sign warning other drivers and plan to install a permanent one.

"I accept the fact that I messed up and parked where I wasn’t supposed to," he said.

But Pierdominici says he can’t accept the tow bill, which was $320.

"That type of a towing fee is excessive in my book," he said.

When we went to East Bound towing, the owner didn’t want to go on camera. But the owner told Boston 25 News he didn’t charge extra fees for the mileage and his tow charge matches the city of Nashua rate.

Chris says he just wants to warn others, to protect their cars and their wallets.
