6-year-old dies after being pulled from water in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER, Mass. — A 6-year-old was unresponsive when pulled from the water at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester on Saturday evening.

He was declared dead shortly after being hospitalized.

Police and firefighters responded to reports of a child in the water at around 5:11 p.m. in the beach area off Thatcher Road.

At the scene, first responders found the 6-year-old boy who had been pulled from the water.

The victim was transported to Addison General Hospital via ambulance.

According to the Essex District Attorney, the boy was originally from Moscow, Russia and was removed from the water by his grandfather.

While the cause of death remains under investigation, authorities say it appears to be a "medically-related event."
