WINCHENDON, Mass. — A Winchendon man died in a single-car crash late Friday night, police say.
Winchendon Police responded to 911 calls around 11:22 p.m. on Friday night after reports of a single-car crash on Baldwinville State Road.
Officers saw a car overturned and engulfed in flames in the northbound side of the road when they arrived.
The surrounding woods were catching fire after the crash, and officers unsuccessfully tried to knock down the flames with fire extinguishers.

The Winchendon Fire Department extinguished the fire when they arrived, and the driver of the car, 43-year-old Winchendon Bernard Gronowicz, was found dead inside the car.
No witnesses to the crash have been identified, and those reporting the call had found it after the crash.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
