28 cats found in Worcester home after woman evicted

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The Worcester animal Rescue League is taking care more than two dozen cats after their owner was evicted from her home.

Police say the woman is in her 70s and kept the 28 cats inside her home. Rescuers say the conditions inside the home were filthy, including piles of feces and the strong smell of urine. Neighbors say the stench was so strong they could smell it from outside and had been able to for some time.

The Worcester Animal Rescue League says some of the cats have pink eye and others are in visible shock.

"The cats look like they're in fair condition.. some were urine soaked. I heard reports of the apartment just being deplorable  with feces and trash and who knows," said Allie Tellier with the Worcester Animal Rescue League.

The cats are currently being checked to make sure they are healthy. If not, they are getting the medical attention needed while in the care of the rescue organization.

"They're going to need some baths and probably, some antibiotics here and there, but we're prepared to take care of them," Tellier said.

Police say the woman who owned the cats is being monitored at a hospital.
