NOTTINGHAM, NH — A 21-year-old man drowned in Pawtuckaway Lake in Nottingham, New Hampshire on Tuesday.
On the morning of the Fourth of July, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department was called to help Nottingham police, fire and the New Hampshire Marine Patrol with a drowning victim.
Officials say 21-year-old Angel Cruz of Puerto Rico tried to swim from the shore to a small island, which is about 150-feet away. Cruz made it approximately 60-feet from shore when he began having trouble swimming.
Witnesses told officials that he struggled to stay afloat and disappeared below the surface of the water on two occasions, then resurfaced. He went below the water a third time, but did not come back up.
Divers recovered Cruz’s body in approximately 12-feet of water, in the area that witnesses saw him disappear.
No additional information was available.
