2 men rush into local repair shop, beat owner and employees with crowbar

NORTH READING, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Two men were arrested in North Reading for assaults at a local repair shop, according to police.

The masked men rushed into an auto repair shop on Main Street in North Reading armed with a hammer and crowbar and beat the owner and several employees, police say. Brendan Donovan, 21, of Stoneham and Anthony Leonard Ferratusco, 21, of Saugus were both taken into custody and face several felony charges, including multiple counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy, armed assault with intent to murder, and resisting arrest. Donovan was also charged with possession of a class C drug with intent to distribute.

Police say the two suspects were involved in a conflict with a 19-year-old employee of the auto repair shop, which was their motive for beating him and the others in the store before taking off.

"This was a viscous attack allegedly planned and executed by these two suspects with the clear intent to do serious bodily harm to others," Chief Michael Murphy said. "I am grateful for the hard work done today by our North Reading Police Officers and our partners in the State and Billerica Police for quickly finding these dangerous individuals."

The victims were treated at the scene for cuts, swelling, and bruises.

Donovan and Ferratusco were held on $5,000 cash bail and have an arraignment set for Friday.
