CHARLTON, Mass. — Two teen girls say they unknowingly bought pot brownies from another student at school in Charlton and wound up in the hospital.
The girls’ moms say not only did administrators fail to warn other parents about what their kids may have brought home, but they say a consequence of not speaking up about taking it seriously has led to these girls being bullied.
It was a matter of hours before Stephanie Nichols and Stephanie Redmond were in the emergency room Friday after they say they bought brownies from a classmate at Bay Path regional Vocational High School not realizing they were laced with drugs.
"Pale white, she was crying, shaking, shaking like convulsions, saying that she can’t breathe,” Laura Redmond said.
According to the mothers, doctors say the girls could have had a stroke, with heart rates as high as 160. They believe the brownies were laced with marijuana but can’t be sure before blood test results. Both girls’ symptoms lasted nearly 3 days.
The parents say it’s even scarier that administrators never notified other parents of what happened. The girls claim nearly 30 people also bought the brownies.
"It’s scary, we could have died, and other people could have had the same issues but they’re not stepping up and telling people,” Stephanie Nichols said.
The two girls now say they’re afraid to go back to school because they are getting bullied.
"I got threats from one girl saying ‘if I find out that you told anyone about these I will beat you.’ And then I got messages from other girls saying ‘you’re such a rat, no one at school likes you,’” Nichols said.
FOX25 did reach out to administrators but their offices were closed, however police did confirm that they are investigating.
