SAUGUS, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- One person was killed in a hit and run on Route 1 South in Saugus.
Police say the crash happened outside a Hooters restaurant just after 11 p.m. Sunday night. A 33-year-old New York man was struck by the vehicle as he crossed Route 1. He was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 11:26 p.m.
Witnesses on the scene say the car struck the man and continued without stopping. Authorities are looking for a dark red Mercedes Sedan that has heavy front end damage on the passenger side of the car.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
