In a short video produced by GQ and Lincoln, the stars of "Empire" reveal how they get into character before filming each episode. The behind-the-scenes look takes viewers through the actors' thought processes before they get in front of the camera.
"I get into character, go into the trailer and then, I just listen to music. It could be anything that calls for the scene," Bryshere Y. Gray says at the beginning of the video. "I learn a lot from just watching Terrence and Taraji work on set. They set the tone for the brothers and all the newcomers as myself," he said.
"I work from the inside out," said Trai Byers. He continues: "For Andre Lyon I went through the trilogy of 'The Godfather' for looks specifically. There's a very haunted feel to what Marlon Brando was doing [and] what passes on to what Al Pacino was doing. The heaviness of it is something I wanted to tap into and channel."
"I've always felt the most comfortable on the set and at work and on a stage. If I get to do that and tell someone else's story and also provide an escape for someone else, I'm the luckiest person ever," said Kailtlin Doubleday. "I think I use a lot of people that I've met in my life to find Rhonda. I pull from super sexual women to find Rhonda's confidence," she added.
