Red Sox place Benintendi on bereavement list

BOSTON, Mass. — The Boston Red Sox have placed outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the bereavement list.

To fill Benintendi’s spot on the 25-man roster, the club recalled first baseman/outfielder Sam Travis from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Benintendi, 24, has hit .297 (104-for-350) with 25 doubles, five triples, 14 home runs, 57 RBI, 68 runs scored, and an .897 OPS in 91 games for Boston this season.

He is also 17-for-18 in stolen base attempts, as he leads the Red Sox in steals, walks (49), and triples.

Travis, 24, has appeared in four games in one stint with Boston this season, going 2-for-12 with a walk and three RBI. He has also hit .224 (46-for-205) with six home runs in 57 games for Pawtucket, including .346 (9-for-26) with two homers in his last eight games.

The Red Sox play the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.
