NORTON — TPC Boston hosted media day for the 2017 Dell Technologies Championship on Monday, just over four weeks from the start of this year's tournament.
Rory McIlroy, the defending champion who also won in Norton in 2012, answered questions via conference call today, reflecting on his success at TPC Boston and what it takes to win the first event in the FedEx Cup Playoff.
"Any time you go back to a course when you have had success and you have those great memories, it's almost like you have an advantage over the field already," said McIlroy. "I've been lucky enough to win at a couple of courses a number of times. I think just mentally you're a lot more comfortable."
Rich Brady, the executive director of the tournament, spoke in detail about the many events designed to make the weekend family-friendly. From discounted tickets for veterans, to a kid-friendly "Fan Experience" area, which includes virtual reality kiosks, photo booths, gaming centers and more, to more exclusive opportunities for a premium cost, the tournament offers an array of entertainment options.
"We have the most passionate sports fans in America, in Boston" said Brady. "Secondly, we're a playoff event so we're guaranteed to have the top 100 players and then there's a bit of continuation, so some momentum. There's 125 players before us at the Northern Trust, 70 after and the conclusion in Atlanta with 30 players. It's nice to be a part of a big playoff event."
