WALTHAM — Two days before the opening of the regular season, the Celtics cut second-year guard RJ Hunter as he was in the midst of celebrating his 23rd birthday.
Hunter, drafted in 2015 by the Celtics, played in 36 games, averaging just 2.7 points per game. Highly-touted as an outside shooting force when he graduated from Georgia State, Hunter was never able to find a consistent level of success from long range with Boston.
James Young, a first-round pick in 2014, earned the final roster spot.
It was reported by The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski that the Celtics were looking to shop Hunter for a second-round draft choice, but were unable to find a taker.
