Pom Pass: Patriots Cheerleaders Alums connect from far apart

Pom Pass Cheer Alums

A handful of Patriots Cheerleaders alumni have gathered virtually to re-kindle friendships, bond a little bit and lift our spirits during this time of separation. A “pom pass,” set to the music of ‘Good Vibrations’ by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, features former Pats Cheerleaders from various decades “passing” the poms to each other, virtually, after completing a quick dance move.

Kelli LaVita and Paula McDonald, who cheered in Foxboro in the 1990s, conceptualized the video and made the call to their fellow alums, with Kelli editing the final version, featuring 50 different women who cheered for the Patriots dating back to the 1960s.

In the 90s, the squad used to perform on the field to ‘Good Vibrations,’ one of the reasons that song was chosen for the video.

“We wanted to spread some cheer in this very stressful time when everyone is cooped up,” said McDonald. “Since we can’t get together to dance in person and we’re all over the country (and for obvious reasons), we thought up this idea. We’ve seen other sports doing this with footballs and batons, so we figured let’s pass the poms!!! It really has lifted the spirits of everyone who took part.”

“My family did a fun toilet paper toss when this all began and Paula and I thought it would be fun to try to get our cheers sisters in on a collaborative video to spread cheer across the United States,” said LaVita. “A lot of our cheer sisters have moved so this was a way to connect.”
