CHESTNUT HILL — Joanna Bernabei-McNamee was introduced as the new head coach of the Boston College Women's Basketball team Wednesday afternoon. She comes to Chestnut Hill from the University of Albany, where she won at least 21 games in each of the last two years, leading the Great Danes to the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
During her ascent up the coaching ranks, Bernabei-McNamee spent time at the University of Maryland. In 2006, the Lady Terps won the national championship in Boston.
"Here I am, back in the great city of Boston, where I won that national championship," said Bernabei-McNamee. "And I'm going to get to conquer my new goals with my new team."
Bernabei-McNamee was introduced by BC athletic director Martin Jarmond.
"We all want BC Women's Basketball to be where women's basketball fans migrate," said Benabei-McNamee. "How do we do that? We have a great product that we put on the court every night. And how do we do that? Well, back in the day when I coached against Boston College, they had great leadership and that's what I'm looking forward to doing - leading this program back to that success and it's going to be a special building process.
