WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Worcester is taking a closer look at security after several guns turned up on and near school campuses.
A late afternoon meeting was called Thursday between all city managers and school officials.
The school district and city wanted to sit down and throw some ideas around. The police department has been working to enhance security in fact they have a big vote tonight at the school committee meeting. But after several guns turned up in separate incidences this week and last -- they wanted to work on more immediate ideas.
Three Worcester Vocational Technical high school students faced a judge Thursday after being arrested outside their school for having a trunkload of potential weapons in a car.
Police found pellet guns, cross bows and BB guns. Police also arrested another man who was with a Burncoat High School student yesterday. That man was also charged in a shoot out at a park.
Last week police located a gun in a Burncoat student's locker. Since that incident the school district has been enforcing the rule students can not have large bags or backpacks. Students are okay with the tighter rules but say screening or metal detectors may be too much.
