Worcester rapper's viral video spurs conversation about race in America

WORCESTER, Mass. — A new music video put together by a black rapper from Worcester is getting a lot of attention from people across the country as it spurs a conversation about race in America.

The video, “I’m Not Racist,” has been seen by more than 27 million people since it was posted to Facebook Tuesday.

It’s a music video that features two men sitting across from each other at a table. One man, who is white, is wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and firing off racial slurs and stereotypes.

The man across from him is African American and makes a counter argument to white supremacy.

The video ends with the two men hugging and then a message of unity.

"We were all humans until race disconnected us, religion separated us, politics divided us, and wealth classified us," a message in the video says.

The man behind the video is a local rapper, Joyner Lucas, from Worcester.

He tweeted “What’s happening right now? I feel like my life is changing before my eyes.”

Critics of the video though claim Lucas is giving a platform to white supremacy, and many others may misinterpret the message of his video and instead like the racist stereotypes they’re hearing.
