Police: Worcester officer stabbed in face during arrest

WORCESTER, Mass. — A Worcester police officer is recovering after being stabbed in the face while arresting a man early Sunday morning, police say.

Two officers were called to an apartment complex on Grand Street when a woman said she was being harassed and verbally threatened on the phone by her ex-boyfriend, a 30-year-old Worcester man.

The 23-year-old woman said she had a restraining order against the man and he told her not to call police. While officers were in the lobby of the building, the ex-boyfriend showed up and police say officers told him he was going to be arrested.

At that point, police say the man tried to get away and struggled with both officers. Eventually, police say he pulled out a steak knife and stabbed of the officers in the face before he was Tased and arrested.

The officer who was stabbed was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

The man has been charged with violation of a restraining order, trespassing, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, attempted murder, mayhem and threatening to commit a crime.
